Hitchin Outer Orbital Path

Hitchin, a small town in the north of Hertfordshire.

Around  the town, the residents and the North Herts Ramblers Group have established a celebratory walking route known as the HOOP: the Hitchin Outer Orbital Path.

The name is a cheeky riff on the ‘London LOOP’, but is somewhat shorter.  The HOOP is a 12-mile circuit following public rights of way, starting in the middle of the town, on the High Street, and running out along countryside paths, and with some unavoidable road walking, to return to the town centre.

The route has been broken down into four natural stages:

Section 1: Hitchin market place to Ickleford Church – 4.5 miles

Section 2: Ickleford Church to Cambridge Road (Hitchin Garden Centre) – 3 miles

Section 3: Cambridge Road to Wymondley Road – 2.5 miles

Section 4: Wymondley Road to Hitchin market place – 2 miles
