Williams Point

Location: 62° 27' 5" S 60° 8' 10" W
NE point of Livingston Island and NW entrance point of McFarlane Strait, is believed to be the first part of the South Shetland Islands sighted by William Smith, 19 February 1819, and hence the first recorded sighting of land in Antarctica; roughly charted by Smith and named Cape Williams after his brig Williams. The point was recharted by Discovery Investigations, 1934-35, as Williams Point. The point was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1956-57, and surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey, 1957-59.
