Waterboat Point
(Danco Coast)
British Antarctic Territory
Location: 64° 49' 25" S 62° 51' 29" W
at N end of Paradise Harbour, Danco Coast, formed by a small island joined to the mainland by a spit at low tide, was roughly charted by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition in February 1898; surveyed by BAE, 1920-22, when a two-man party occupied the point from 12 January 1921 to 13 January 1922, living in an old water boat left stranded by the whaling factory ship Neko about eight years before; named Water Boat Point. The feature was further surveyed by the Chilean Antarctic Expedition, 1950-51, and called Península Munita after Capt. (N) Diego Munita Whittaker, commanding the expedition in the patrol ship Angamos. A Chilean station was established on the site in January 1951 and called 'González Videla' or 'Base Presidente González Videla': since 1964 the Chilean station has been only seasonally occupied. The point was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1956-57.
