Location: 71° 12' S 70° 19' 59" W
running N-S from c.71°00'S to 71°20'S, E of Lewis Snowfield, Alexander Island, rising to c.1450 m at Mount McArthur, and including also Palindrome Buttress, Richter Peaks and Sevier Nunatak, were photographed from the air by Ellsworth, 23 November 1935 and roughly mapped from air photographs; further photographed from the air by the United States Antarctic Service in 1940 and by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947; named after Lieut. Col. R. C. Walton, USMC, of the Office of Naval Research, who helped to secure naval support for the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition. The mountains were mapped from the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition photographs by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1959.
