flowing SE from Mount Mangin into Ryder Bay, SE Adelaide Island, was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1956-57, and surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Adelaide, 1961-62; named after Ernest Brian Sheldon (b.1945), the British Antarctic Survey meteorological observer, Adelaide, 1968-69, and 'Stonington Island', 1969-70; Base Commander, Adelaide, 1975-76, and Rothera, 1976-77.
