E entrance point of Ryder Bay, Wright Peninsula, SE Adelaide Island, and site of the British Antarctic Survey station Rothera (q.v.), was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition and surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from 'Horseshoe Island' and 'Detaille Island', 1957-58; named after John Michael Rothera (b. 1934), the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey surveyor, 'Horseshoe Island', 1957-58, and 'Detaille Island', 1958-59.
