Rescue Rock

(Skua Island)

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

Location: 53° 59' 60" S 37° 13' 16" W
NE of Skua Island, Bay of Isles, was charted by Discovery Investigations in 1930 and named because, but for the presence of the rock, the whale catcher Southern Shore would have passed further out to sea and not have seen the Discovery Investigations party's distress signal on Skua Island, when their survey motor-boat Alert was driven ashore at Camp Bay in December 1929.
