rising to c. 1600m in Sweeney Mountains, was surveyed from the ground on the United States Geological Survey Antarctic Peninsula Traverse, 1961-62, photographed from the air by the United States Navy, 1965-67, and mapped from air photographs by the United States Geological Survey; named after G.E. Ballard, the United States Antarctic Research Program equipment operator, 'South Pole Station', winter 1963.
