Location: 60° 43' 59" S 44° W
rising to c. 500m and forming the ice-covered central part of Laurie Island between Pirie Peninsula and the south coast, South Orkney Islands. Named after Robert Saunders Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville (1771-1851), First Lord of the Admiralty, 1812-27 and 1828-30, whose name was applied by Weddell to Laurie Island in the form 'Melville's Island'.
