Goudier Island

Location: 64° 49' 32" S 63° 29' 36" W
in Port Lockroy (q.v.), Wiencke Island, was charted by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1903-05, and named Îlot Goudier after E. Goudier, Chief Engineer in the expedition ship Français. The island was recharted by Discovery Investigations in 1927. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey station called 'Base A' or 'Port Lockroy' was established on the island, 16 February 1944, and occupied almost continuously until 16 January 1962. An astronomical fix was obtained on the island in 1944.
