
Fridtjof Sound

Location: 63° 34' 32" S 56° 43' 46" W
running N-S between Tabarin Peninsula to the W, and Jonassen Island and Andersson Island to the E, was charted by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition, 15 January 1902, and named Frithiofs [sic] Sund after the Norwegian whaling ship Fridtjof (Kapt. Olof Gyldén) which was to have co-operated with the Uruguay in the relief of the expedition but arrived too late. The sound was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from 'Hope Bay', 1945-47.
