South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

Location: 54° 4' 8" S 37° 7' 60" W
SE side of Cook Bay to which it is connected by Carl Passage (q.v.), was named Elephant Harbour by the the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition after the elephant seal (Mirounga leonina), probably following the usage of sealers. Elephant Lagoon, following survey by Discovery Investigations in 1929.
