Darbel Islands

(Darbel Bay)

British Antarctic Territory

Location: 66° 23' 15" S 65° 55' 32" W
one main island with smaller islands and rocks on N side of entrance to Darbel Bay (q.v.), Loubet Coast. Following survey of the area by Discovery Investigations in 1930-31, these islands were confused with Bragg Islands (q.v.) to which Discovery Investigations applied the name Marin Darbel Islands, in association with Darbel Bay. The islands were surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from 'Detaille Island' in 1957. Darbel Island charted in 1974, referring to the largest island, with Depot Islet, Outer Islet, referring to two small islands on the NE side of the group.
