Bryde Island

(Danco Coast)

British Antarctic Territory

Location: 64° 52' 35" S 63° 1' 38" W
W side of Paradise Harbour, Danco Coast, was roughly charted by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition on 10-11 February 1898 and named Île Bryde, probably after Ingvald Bryde (b. 1860), Norwegian agent who arranged the purchase of the expedition ship Belgica (ex-Patria). Corrections to the chart of the island were made by BAE, 1920-22, from information supplied by whalers. The island was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition in 1956-57.
