five main islands (including Green Island, q.v.) and a number of rocks off Collins Bay, Graham Coast, were roughly charted by the French Antarctic Expedition, 1903-05, as one island and named Île Berthelot, after Marcelin Pierre Eugène Berthelot (1827-1907), French chemist and politician. The islands were photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition in 1956-57.
